Imaginary Forces has made a 4 minute short film tributing the graphic designer Paul Rand. The video mixes animations of some of his great works and an interview with the designer.

I’ve made a transcription as a exercise for improving my English speaking skills. If you found an error, please, add a comment or mail me. Here it is:

When you take design, everybody has a definition who doesn’t correspondes which yours. There are many good definitions. One is the synthesis of form and content. In other words, without content there is not form and without form there is no content. WORK about is realise that form and content are indistinguishable. When form predominates meaning is blunted. When content predominates interest lags.

What aesthetics means what is not done with love

Without aesthetics, you can’t find the truth, to do things with quality. I think this is in a true sense what aesthetics means.

Not done with love or some material because it is cheer, because it is popular, because it is crazy… you know, all this stuff.

Graphic design is , because anything that is graphic, is graphic: painting, . This is graphic. The youger of art

Don’t try to be original. Just try to be good. Art is an idea that has found its perfect form. … No matter how perfectly you do something, it can still be improved.

Nick Sherman has in his porftolio, among other beautifull design and typographic works, this great information design piece, which shows the position of the Sun, the Earth and the Moon through the time on a vertical calendar. A reduced view is even better.

Nick notes:

“In this form, it makes it a bit easier to comprehend the relative rate of rotation between the planets. Even a quick glance makes the patterns in motion easy to see; patterns that are invisible in a standard box-based calendar.”

I completely agree with Nick on one thing: Information Design is about making patterns visible.
